- Atropine (Myoguard)
At Incheon Jalboneun Seongmo Eye Clinic, atropine concentration is prescribed according to the degree of myopia progression, which is safe and effective.
Atropine is an anticholinergic. Used at low concentration, it stops proliferation of the sclera, the outermost coat of the eye, suppressing elongation of the eye and thereby also suppressing myopia progression.
Side effects are rare; glare may occur occasionally but is temporary and can improve over time.
Higher atropine concentrations increase myopia-control effect, but glare can occur as the pupil dilates, so using a concentration suited to the patient is important.
